The Newbattle Award opens up opportunities for the adult returning to education. It can assist progression onto further study and opens up the mind to all sorts of career and life opportunities. The Award is a one year full time residential course designed specifically for Adult learners.
The course starts in September and finishes in June the following year.
The year is divided into two semesters, semester 1 from September to February, semester 2 from February to June.
The course is made up of 18 separate units: IT, Communications, Numeracy, Creative Writing, Literature, Psychology, Sociology, History, Ecology and Politics. Text reproduced with permission. © Newbattle Abbey College

Who We Are?
This website was developed by Newbattle Writers, a small group of students at Newbattle Abbey College interested in developing themselves as writers. This site went live in October 2005 and already there are more than 150 contributions posted here. This website has provided students with their own personal page to showcase their work. The site also provides you, the reader, with a means to respond to each writer and to provide feedback, encouragement or tips. We hope that one day a site like this will become a permanent online community for Newbattle Writers and a vital link with the world of writers and writing outside our college walls. Click on 'First Drafts' to see some of the work now.
New writing is almost by definition exploratory and experimental. Hopefully you will encounter writing containing challenging, provacative and stimulating ideas and language. This site is intended as an unmoderated amateur writers showcase and we do not impose a formal editorial policy. Please do not hesitate to contact the webmaster if you feel that acceptable boundaries have been breached. We will, of course, remove anything racist, sexist or otherwise offensive.
